Hot tubs in Artà and Cala Ratjada
The north-east corner of the island mixes working fincas around Artà and Capdepera with coastal villas in Cala Ratjada, Canyamel and Cala Mesquida, and a large German community in both. Access is good almost everywhere, and the sea is the main thing we design around.
Delivery notes for Artà & Cala Ratjada
Fincas on the Artà plain have gravel drives and open ground where the lorry parks beside the terrace and the spa goes in on a trolley. In Cala Ratjada the streets are wide enough but many villas sit on sloping plots toward the sea, with a terrace below the drive, and a short crane lift at 450 to 650 euros is sometimes quicker than a long ramp. Artà and Capdepera old towns have narrow streets and townhouse patios that need a small crane and a street permit.
Fincas and coastal villas
Two very different briefs come from this corner. Finca owners inland want a spa on a wide stone terrace with a view of the Puig de Sant Salvador, and the Serra 5 or the six-seat Cala 6 fit the space and the family. Coastal villa owners in Cala Ratjada, Font de Sa Cala and Canyamel want something on the pool terrace, and swim spa enquiries here are strong, usually for the Nedar 5.2 as a year-round alternative to a pool that is too cold from October.
German owners
A large share of houses around Cala Ratjada belong to German families, many of them here from spring to autumn and some all year. We advise and install in German, the paperwork comes in German, and the service plan is designed for an owner who is in Hamburg when the filter needs rinsing.
Salt and the east wind
Cala Ratjada faces east and takes the llevant in winter with spray reaching terraces well back from the front. The cabinet, fixings and cover straps are specified for it, and we suggest a position that is sheltered by the house rather than open to the sea. Inland around Artà the wind is less of an issue and the problem is sun, which the UV-stable cabinet handles.
Water
Mains water in Capdepera and Artà is hard, and many fincas are on wells with high calcium and sometimes iron. We test on the day and fit a hose pre-filter when needed.
Stone and surrounds
Finca terraces here are often in marès or rough local stone, and owners want the spa to match. We build a stone-faced plinth or a half-sunken surround in the same material, and the result reads as part of the house.
Installation
A finca install is a morning plus the terrace work if there is any. Coastal villas with a crane start early to beat the summer traffic on the Ma-15, and the spa is heating by midday.
