Water care and servicing, built for Mallorca and second homes
A hot tub is easy to live with when someone keeps an eye on the water. In Mallorca that means dealing with calcium, sun and salt air, and often with a house that is empty for six weeks at a time. Here is how we handle it.
What a water care visit involves
A visit takes 30–45 minutes. We test sanitiser, pH, alkalinity and calcium hardness, adjust them, clean or swap the filter cartridges, wipe the waterline, check the cover and cabinet, run every pump and jet, and read the controller's error log. You get a short message with the readings afterwards. From €95 per visit, less on a plan.
Hard water
Mallorca's water is some of the hardest in Spain. Fill a tub straight from the tap and within weeks you get a chalky waterline, scale on the heater and cloudy water. We fill through a pre-filter that takes out most of the calcium, add a scale inhibitor from day one, and keep pH between 7.2 and 7.6, because above that the calcium falls out of solution.
Chlorine, bromine, UV and ozone
Chlorine granules are cheap, effective and what most owners use. Bromine is gentler on skin and more stable at spa temperatures, and we recommend it for people who react to chlorine. UV and ozone, standard on the Signature series and an upgrade on the others, destroy most contaminants before they need chemicals, so you use roughly half the sanitiser.
Second homes
Before you leave for six weeks, drop the temperature to 30 °C, set the filtration to two short cycles a day, top up the sanitiser, lock the cover and turn off the water supply to the terrace. On a Premium or Signature model the app lets you check the temperature and errors from abroad. Our holiday check, from €45 per visit, has us come every two weeks to test, top up and look at the cover, so you arrive to clear water.
Winter
Winters here are mild, and a tub at 38 °C in January is the best part of owning one. Leave it running. Draining for winter causes more damage than it prevents, because water left in the pipes is where frost does its work.
Filters and covers
Rinse the filter cartridges every two weeks, soak them in filter cleaner monthly and replace them yearly. The cover takes the worst of the sun and the salt. Wipe it down monthly, treat the vinyl with a UV protectant every three months, and open it to dry the underside after heavy rain. A cover that has become heavy with water needs replacing.
When to call
Cloudy water or a chlorine smell are chemistry, and we can usually talk you through it on WhatsApp. An error code on the display, a pump that hums without moving water, a drop in water level that a top-up does not fix, or a tripping RCD are reasons to stop using the tub and call us.
Other brands
We service most makes of hot tub on the island, not only the ones we sell. Send us the brand, model and a photo of the control panel and we will tell you if we can get parts.

Why it matters in Mallorca
- Mallorca's water is hard. Without the right balance it scales heaters and jets within a season.
- Second homes sit empty for weeks. A spa that's checked stays ready; one that isn't greets you green.
- Salt air and strong sun shorten the life of covers and cabinets unless they're looked after.

Questions

Do you service hot tubs from other brands?
Yes for water care, water changes, holiday checks and general repairs on most mainstream brands; for warranty work on another manufacturer's spa you need their agent. If your spa is an unusual import we may need to see it first to check that parts are obtainable. Send us a photo of the control panel and the equipment bay and we will tell you straight away.
What does a holiday check include?
A visit from 45 euros in which we open the cover, test and balance the water, check the filter, pump and heater, confirm the temperature setting and strap the cover back down. Most second-home owners book one every two to three weeks while away, with a water care visit from 95 euros or a water change from 180 euros before they arrive. You get a short message with a photo after each visit.
How often does the water need changing?
Every three to four months with regular use, sooner if it is used heavily or by rental guests, and the panel or app on Premium and Signature models will prompt you. A change takes a couple of hours: drain, wipe the shell, rinse or replace the filter, refill and rebalance. We do it from 180 euros, or you can do it yourself with the drainage pump kit.
Should I shut the spa down for the winter?
In Mallorca, no. Winters are mild, Palma averages about 10 °C at night in January, and a well-insulated spa costs less to keep warm than most people expect, 50 to 80 euros a month for a 5-seater depending on the series. Draining a spa for months is worse for seals and pumps than running it. If the house is empty, drop the set temperature to around 25 °C and book holiday checks.
What happens if something fails under warranty?
Send us a photo of the fault code or a short video on WhatsApp and we will usually diagnose it the same day. Our technicians are on the island with common parts in the van, so most repairs happen within a few working days rather than after a shipment from abroad. Warranty covers parts and labour; damage from freezing, chemical misuse or running dry is not included, which is one more reason to keep the water looked after.
