Hot tubs in Santanyí and Cala Llombards
Santanyí is marès country, with honey-coloured stone houses in the town, restored fincas on the plain and low villas along a coast that takes the wind head on. The spa has to look right against the stone and stay put when the migjorn blows.
Delivery notes for Santanyí & Cala Llombards
Santanyí town has narrow streets but most stone houses have a side door or a rear lane wide enough for a spa on its side, and where they do not a small crane over the single-storey roof is quick. Fincas toward Es Llombards and Calonge have gravel tracks and open yards with easy access. Cala Llombards, Cala Santanyí and Cala Figuera have steep lanes down to the water and terraces below the road, where a crane from the lane is the usual route.
Marès and the look of the place
Santanyí stone is the material of the town and buyers here care how the spa sits. A grey cabinet in the middle of a marès terrace is wrong, and almost every installation we do in this area includes a stone-faced surround or a half-sunken plinth in matching marès, built by the same team that sets the spa. We seal the porous marès against splash and chemicals.
Models
The Serra 6 is the common choice for the restored fincas, where the terrace is big and the household often includes guests. The Mar 5 goes to owners who live here all year and want the quietest equipment and the lowest winter running cost, 45 to 60 euros a month for a Signature 5-seater. The round Rodona 6 suits the social finca terrace where people face each other rather than lie back.
Wind on this coast
Cala Llombards, Cala Santanyí and Cala Figuera take the migjorn from the south and the llevant from the east with nothing in the way. Covers are the thing that suffers. We fit straps at all four corners, add a cover lifter so the lid is never loose on the terrace, and site the spa in the lee of a wall where possible. A pergola from 3,200 euros breaks the wind and shades the cover.
Salt and dust
The coast gets salt and the plain gets red dust off the fields in summer. Rinse the cover and cabinet with fresh water now and then and the filters more often than the manual suggests.
Water
Santanyí mains water is hard, and many fincas are on wells or cisterns. We test the fill and set the calcium routine to match, and a pre-filter on the hose is cheap insurance against staining on the first fill.
Installation
Finca installs are a standard morning plus the stone work beforehand. Coastal houses with a crane are booked for calm days; we do not lift a 400 kg shell over a roof in a migjorn gale.
